Hi I’m Sophie; mum of 2, fianceé, sister, friend, forty something, fashion lover. Stylist and online personal shopper, and for the first time a full time fashion and beauty blogger.

I’ve set myself a task of writing 40 blog posts and getting to grips with the technology to enable me to do it!  A blog about a forty something coming to terms with being a forty something…. having a university aged son, going grey and trying to find a cure!  Being in love with fashion and beauty and wanting other forty somethings to feel the same.  Sharing how to interpret the current trends for the way we actually live.  Tips on hair and beauty that aren’t going to break the bank.  I’m not against Botox or the odd tweak, I haven’t gone there yet but I’m a ‘never say never’ type of gal.  However until I’m brave enough or my face is on the floor, I’m going to try and go with what I’ve got and look the best I can everyday. In the words of the magnificent Coco Channel: “Keep your head, heels and standards high”, apart from when on the school run, then a stylish flat is acceptable!

I started my career in beauty working in Harrods, Harvey Nichols and Fortnum and Masons back in the naughty nineties when things were fabulous and skin was taught and my biggest worry was what happens if I laddered my tights. I went on to be a lecturer in make up and beauty and generally having a lovely fluffy time.  After having my boys I picked up on my all-consuming passion for fashion (and shopping) and became a stylist and visual merchandiser, with a bit of personal shopping thrown in for good measure.

Having being in denial for 4 years, 5 months and 10 days I now feel the time is right to talk about and share my life in my forties, the ups and the downs and the in-betweens. This is a very grey area, literally, from battling with grey hairs to the muddy water of leaving your so-called youth behind and trying to embrace the whole ‘life begins at 40’ adage.  I’ve still got it right? People tell me I still look good, (for my age, but that’s another story!) apart from the only people who are now the new cool, my children.  They dictate what now goes, especially my too-cool-for-school 17 year old, who with one cutting word can make me feel like Miss Marple on a bad day.  Although, he still asks my advice when shopping, so I guess I must be doing something right!

Well that’s a little bit about me, what I really want 40 Stories to be about is fun and fashion and enjoying dressing for you.  Embracing that without surgically removing a rib, you’re never going to fit back into those jeans/favourite dress, and why the hell should you!  Throw out the old, get to grips with the current, and embrace the future; yes it’s a bit scary but then good things usually are, who wants safe, I bloody don’t.  I want sexy, I want MILF, I want everything that being in your forties is and shouldn’t be and hopefully you do too.
