Thank you for all your positive feed back about my post on Suzie, and it seems you all liked the body shape angle and have been asking for more!  This got me thinking, and yes it’s a great idea!!  So I’m going to feature a different body shape (friends and clients allowing!) every few weeks and hopefully this will be a useful guide for everyone.

The first person that sprang to mind was my friend Laura, one, because she’s an insufferable showoff!! (the plight of a drama teacher!) She actually fears she may actually one day die from showing off!!!  two, she’s so ridiculously photogenic it’s frankly quite annoying, and three, I hope she won’t mind me saying it but she is the perfect Pear!! Not that you’d know it, as she really knows how to dress for her shape, so to be honest I’ll be picking up a few tips too; and last but by no means least she has an amazing vintage wardrobe which would be a shame not to share.  In fact I think she’s onto something here, lots of vintage dresses and skirts are perfect for the Pear, be it a 40s tea dress, a 50s party frock or even a 70s kaftan all can work incredibly well if your trying to disguise the lower part of the body.  The main characteristics of the classic pear are, wider hips and thighs, narrower shoulders, wider bottom and a smaller bust.  If this sounds like you then you are also a pear!!

This outfit is vintage inspired with its full waisted  50s skirt from H&M, similar at H&M here, black top from Zara and shoes from Zara sale.  This shape skirt is perfect for the pear, You might think it would make the hips look larger but because of its fullness it can hide a multitude of sins and create the perfect hour glass silhouette.
Laura is about to embark on a new career away from her drama roots, to her other passion, gardening.  She’s still trying to come up with an appropriate name for this ‘budding’ business.  She’s discarded ‘Get Down and Dirty’ and ‘Lady Gardens’ and has recently rejected ‘There’s No Business Like Hoe Buisness!!!’  any ideas on a postcard or to her instagram @gladysgoesgreen as she obviously needs help!!.
Showing off again here in what can only be described as quite literally the king of all kimonos!! This is an original 1970s kimono picked up at a school fair.  Slinky black dress from Anthropology, similar here from H & M.  Shoes Bertie and earings from Primark!!

As we all know the kimono is great for covering up bottoms so a perfect pear cover up!

This smart but super sexy look is a wonderful alternative to the full skirt, rules to remember however are make sure the skirt is midi in length and balance out with a fuller shoulder.  Laura’s jacket is good as it has a slight puff with shoulder pad – the pears best friend.  Styled here with the obligatory deer antlers inspired by Alexander McQueen!!

Leather skirt Asos, vintage adidas t-shirt, Camden market, Jacket H&M, for similar Reiss, necklace is a vintage turkish wedding necklace and shoes Zara as before.

I love this sweet summer dress, when asked where it was from Laura said it was actually so old it had turned into being vintage in her own wardrobe! from Fornarina.  Think I’ve got a few of those in mine too, even some of my underwear is becoming vintage!!  Similar here from one of our favourite vintage shops, just round the corner in Teddington, Mela Mela.
Although this dress is new it still has a lovely vintage feel and a joyful print!  It suits Laura beautifully and plays to all her strengths.  If you’re quick you can still buy this at Zara in the sale!!  Shoes from Sweedish Hasbeens.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my little trip into Laura’s wardrobe and it’s given you some style inspiration, apologies for length of last weeks post, but I was double busy with my eldest son, Freddie’s 18th birthday….. yes 18, how old does that make me feel!?! and it was also my little boy, Sammy’s 10th, a little easier to stomach!!  So it was party central round here.  Throw in selling your house and trying to find a new one and you’ve got one stressed out puppy!!

As I’ve got back on top of things a little, I’m going to post this early, as I’m heading to Soho House, House Festival on Thursday, so might forget to post it out on Friday!!!  Look out for next weeks post on what to wear to a festival, that doesn’t involve cut out midriffs and floral garlands in your hair!!

Hope your enjoying this totally scorchio weather, keep your fingers crossed for me on Thursday……. (rain predicted) Arrhhhhhh!!!!!

Nearly forgot to give Ramone a shout out, Laura’s gorgeous blue whippet, who was totally non plussed by his glamourous owner prancing around in all her finery!!

If this has tickled your vintage fancy then get in touch and I will let you in on some of Laura’s secret haunts…..
